[chicago] Quaker Oats Co. will launch a $30 million to $40 million spring marketing barrage for its struggling Snapple juices and teas April 1 with an under-the-cap promotion and new advertising. Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners, New York, has the account.

[chicago] Amoco Oil Co. moved its $30 million petroleum-products account to Leo Burnett USA after dismissing Campbell-Ewald, Warren, Mich., last week, citing creative differences. Campbell-Ewald held the Amoco account for less than a year. Separately, Shell Oil Co., Houston, awarded its corporate-image account to Ogilvy & Mather.

[new york] Leo Burnett USA, Chicago, is the second major agency to sign up for the Niel-sen Monitor-Plus Advertising Intelligence Service. The service will compete head-to-head with Competitive Media Reporting. Sears, Roebuck & Co. has also made a deal for the service.

Arnold Semsky, exec VP-director of media and program services at Omnicom shop BBDO Worldwide, will likely be given the first shot at running the new unit.

[detroit] General Motors Corp. and its German subsidiary Adam Opel filed suit in U.S. District Court here over alleged corporate espionage involving former GM purchasing chief J. Ignacio Lopez de Arriortua, who left to join Volkswagen three years ago. The suit names Volkswagen and its U.S. subsidiary, along with Mr. Lopez, VW management board Chairman Ferdinand Piech and 10 others, claiming they conspired to steal GM trade secrets.
