Latin American sports channel sponsors NBA minor-league team

Published on .

Latin American sports channel Pan-American Sports Network (PSN) is sponsoring a team of National Basketball Association minor-league players that will compete in the sixth annual South American League Basketball Championship this month.

The Ambassadors represent the NBA's new National Basketball Development League (NBDL). The team's participation in the South American tournament, held in Argentina, is the result of an alliance between the NBA, PSN and the South American Basketball Federation.

"Working with PSN enables the NBA to further develop the sport of basketball across South America," says Andrew Messick, senior-VP, NBA International. "The agreement not only brings the Ambassadors to South America, but also allows South American teams to have selected players participate on a developmental basis in the NBDL."

Although soccer is the most popular sport overall in Latin America, the NBA has been working to raise the profile of basketball.
