Estee Lauder Cos., New York, reached an agreement to buy beauty site Gloss.com as part of an overhaul of its Internet strategy. The deal is expected to close in a few weeks, pending regulatory and other approvals. Gloss and its management team will become a part of ELC Online, a new online division headed by Angela Knapp, VP-general manager. She had been in charge of the launch of Lauder's existing sites for the Bobbi Brown, Clinique and Origins brands. Lauder also plans to unveil two additional brand sites this spring: maccosmetics.com and esteelauder.com. All Lauder's brand sites eventually will be linked to a companywide Web site set to launch early next year. That site will sell products from Lauder's prestige brands.
