Lawsuit claims tobacco companies target dangerous products at blacks

Published on .

A civil rights suit saying tobacco makers illegally targeted more dangerous products - menthol cigarettes - at African-Americans was filed in U.S. District Court in Philadelphia by lawyers and plaintiffs who previously successfully took on R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co.'s plan to launch Uptown cigarettes. The suit contends target marketing is legal, but knowingly aiming a more lethal product at one race is not.
