Layoffs hit Wieden & Kennedy

Published on .

Wieden & Kennedy, Portland, Ore., citing cutbacks in Nike advertising, has laid off about 10% of its work force. Thirty-seven of the agency's 350 employees were cut, a Wieden spokeswoman said. Several departments were involved. While the agency has picked up some new Nike assignments, it has been hit by a shift of about half Nike's billings to Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, San Francisco, as well as by an overall reduction of $100 million in Nike spending.
