Leading U.K. pay-TV creates senior marketing role

LONDON--Flextech Television, the U.K.'s largest pay-TVchannel operator, has created a senior marketing position tostrengthen the broadcaster's position in an increasingly competitive multi-channel environment.

As senior VP-marketing, Mike Smallwood, will head the marketingstrategy of the Flextech group, which includes a portfolio of pay-TV and transactional channels such as Living, Trouble and Screenshop, and new interactive operations such as U.K. entertainment guide SceneOne.

Mr. Smallwood has already worked with Flextech as a media consultant. He was previously CEO of Western International Media,which he launched in 1996. Before that, he was media directorfor the Lowe Group, Europe.

Brent Harman, managing director of Flextech, said, "In an increasingly competitive environment, marketing is crucial to ourbusiness performance and Mike's experience and understanding ofthe media landscape will be extremely valuable as Flextech continues to grow."
