CHICAGO (AdAge.com) -- Leo Burnett Worldwide announced that Steve Gatfield, Burnett's Chicago-based chief operating officer, is leaving the company and that his job will be eliminated.

Mr. Gatfield, 45, joined Leo Burnett in 1987 in London, where he ran the U.K. office from 1993 until 1997, and moved to Chicago in 2001 to join the agency's global management team. Before that, he spent four years in Asia, as regional managing director of Leo Burnett Asia-Pacific.

Burnett said Mr. Gatfield will be available as a consultant until the end of the year, and will continue as a director of Beacon Communications, a joint-venture agency in Tokyo he helped to create between Dentsu and Leo Burnett and the former D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles.

Within Leo Burnett and the network's parent, Publicis Groupe, Mr. Gatfield had one of the strongest relationships with Dentsu, and in-depth experience in Europe and Asia.
