While I agree with Bob Garfield's review of the TV sitcom "Good Company" (AA, April 1), I think he has undermined his point by comparing it more to a "mindless sitcom" like "Three's Company." Mindless though it was, "Three's Company" ran in prime time for years, was the springboard for the careers of John Ritter and Suzanne Sommers, and is still in reruns. The producers and actors involved in "Good Company" would probably be thrilled to think they might be mindless enough to cash in like "Three's Company" did.

Your March 24 article "Hollywood sites match up on the Web" stated that MovieFone was "teaming" with the Independent Film Channel. In fact, MovieFone does not have any alliance with this channel beyond the fact that they, like over 50 other Web sites, link to our MovieLink Web site.

The article identified some other companies, including The Los Angeles Times, which have announced their intention to create a service to compete with MovieLink. The article did not, however, accurately describe MovieLink or identify that, unlike these planned services, MovieLink is a highly successful service that has already been in existence for a year.

For clarity, MovieLink, the online version of MovieFone (777-FILM) is the first and only national online movie guide and ticketing service in existence, providing up-to-the-minute movie listings for 10,000 screens in most major cities across the country. It also sells tickets online for thousands of screens, and contains lots of other content, including movie trailers and posters, a chat area for moviegoers and a parents' guide to movie ratings.

MovieLink is not part of the IFC or any other Web site. It is a standalone service that is now one of the most popular entertainment destinations on the Internet, receiving over 3 million hits each week. MovieLink and its sister service, MovieFone, now comprise the country's most frequently used source of movie listings, providing information to over 2 million moviegoers each week.
