Lewinton to get WPP role?

Published on .

With the completion the week of Oct. 2 of the merger between WPP Group, London, and Young & Rubicam, New York, Y&R board member Sir Christopher Lewinton is being touted as a potential contender for the post of non-executive chairman of WPP, persons close to the company say. If selected, Sir Christopher, 68, would succeed former Philip Morris Cos. CEO Hamish Maxwell, 72, as non-executive chairman of WPP. Mr. Maxwell has held the WPP title since October 1988. An announcement is expected soon.
