Taco Bell, Irvine, Calif., issued an April 1 press release saying the chain ``is pleased to announce that it has purchased the Liberty Bell to help reduce the national debt. The Liberty Bell will be renamed the `Taco Liberty Bell' and will still be available for public viewing as it will rotate residence between Philadelphia and Taco Bell's headquarters in Irvine, Calif.'' The April 1 press release also said the Liberty Bell will replace the company's previous signature swinging bell logo and be used in all ad materials. The PepsiCo unit release urged other corporations to adopt national treasures as well. (The company later issued a second release admitting to the April Fool's gag, and said it actually made a contribution to the Independence National Historical Park.)
