LMA unites TV stations in Columbus

Published on .

The U.S. Justice Department said Sinclair Broadcasting can effectively control two TV network affiliates in Columbus, Ohio, under a local marketing agreement. Sinclair owns Fox affiliate WTTE-TV and would manage ABC affiliate WSYX-TV. It is the first direct ruling by the department on a proposal to create a local marketing agreement under which two TV stations in a single market would be run by a single company. The American Association of Advertising Agencies, which has been worried that such TV LMAs would give one media owner extraordinary market power, said unique circumstances in Columbus lessen the impact in that market.
