Lowe, Goldberg Moser in talks

Published on .

Interpublic Group of Cos.' Lowe Group is in talks to acquire Goldberg Moser O'Neill, San Francisco. While Interpublic Chairman Philip H. Geier Jr. would only say "we do not comment on acquisitions," Goldberg Exec VP-Creative Director Mike Moser said, "We are talking seriously to Lowe and the talks are now at a neat place."

Other executives familiar with the discussions cautioned this does not mean a tentative agreement has been reached--indeed, Lowe has not yet presented an acquisition proposal to IPG. But it is expected to do so soon and, if approved, an agreement could follow within two weeks.

While the most apparent conflict between Lowe and Goldberg would be the latter's Kia account and Mercedes at Lowe & Partners/SMS, it could be resolved since Mercedes is at the high end of the auto market and Kia at the low end.
