LONDON -- The Lowe Group has entered the pioneering field of digital management consultancy via a majority investment in a start-up consultancy called Decipher. The consultancy will operate as a standalone company within Lowe & Partners U.K., which was formed last year to provide "media neutral" advice to clients across a range of communications disciplines.

Decipher was founded by Nigel Walley, a management consultant who spent six years at the telecoms and convergence consultancies Pfour Consulting and Putnam Hayes & Bartlett. He later became marketing director of Internet service provider NTL Internet, the company behind Virgin Net and Which?Online.

Decipher's task will be to advise client companies how digital technologies can add value or even change their business. The emphasis of its work will be commercial, rather than marketing led, providing strategic advise on how digital technologies may affect areas such as product development, market segmentation and distribution.

Decipher will officially open for business on September 1.
