Yesterday, the agency said, "After considering his options both inside and outside the Lowe network," Mr. Quish was leaving "to pursue other opportunities" and that "We wish him all the best."
Today, Lowe retracted that announcement, which a spokeswoman attributed to internal miscommunication.
Mr. Quish did not return calls for comment.
Mr. Quish served as president from June 1999 through this past February, when Lowe merged with Bozell, another Interpublic agency. At that time, Tom Bernardin, former president-CEO of Bozell, took over as Lowe president and chief operating officer.
"Rob has been helping with the transition as Lowe and Bozell merge and he continues to be employed by Lowe New York," the spokeswoman said today.
She declined to provide details on Mr. Quish's title and responsibilities.
