Lycos acquires Point

Lycos, a search engine and catalog to the Internet originally developed at Carnegie Mellon University, said it has acquired Point Communications Corp., publisher of an online review and rating guide, in a deal worth more than $3 million. Although Lycos and Point will maintain separate Web sites, their search and review features have been integrated so that users can navigate the Web from either site. Current Lycos advertisers include AT&T, c/net and NECX. Among those advertising on Point are Netscape, Prudential Securities and Prodigy.
