Search engine Lycos Feb. 3 said it would acquire community site Tripod in a $58 million stock transaction. Lycos and Tripod will keep separate Web sites, although there will be integration of features and services. For example, users now will be able to create their own home page on Lycos, while Tripod
will offer Lycos' powerful search capabilities. Through the deal, Lycos says it now will be able to give advertisers the ability to target messages to Tripod's attractive 18-34 demographic.
