Lycos, Dell to invest in search technology company

Internet portal Lycos said it would buy stock and warrants to acquire up to 15% of Fast Search & Transfer, an Oslo, Norway-based search technology company. Dell Computer Corp. also said it would buy stock and warrants to acquire up to 4% of Fast. Lycos already uses Fast's search technology in its MP3 search, multimedia search and music hosting. For instance, Fast helped Lycos recently launch its Listening Room, an area of Lycos Music where musicians can upload and host their MP3 music files for free.
