Lycos joins Bertelsmann

Search engine Lycos formed a joint venture with European media company Bertelsmann to create online navigation sites for 37 countries throughout eastern and western Europe. Bertelsmann Internet Services will invest $10 million in the venture, which plans to launch operations this fall in Germany, the U.K., France, Italy, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg and Spain. Christopher Mohn, former VP-corporate development and marketing at Bertelsmann Internet Services and son of Bertelsmann Chairman Emeritus Reinhard Mohn, was named CEO of the venture.
