Lycos sponsors Superbowl.com

Published on .

Search engine Lycos will be the official sponsor of the National Football League's Superbowl.com Web site, in a deal said to be worth more than $1 million. Under the terms of the deal, Lycos will design, build, host and maintain the site, as well as promote it across the Lycos network. Custom content will include e-mail, chat, home page building and other interactive content. While neither the NFL or Lycos would confirm terms, one executive with knowledge of the deal said it exceeded the more than $1 million IBM reportedly paid to be the site's sponsor last year. The Lycos sponsorship ``is more of a portal play than an e-business perspective that IBM wanted,'' said Evan Kamer, director of business development at the NFL. The deal also includes offline branding through integrated content on NFL programming on CBS and Fox.
