SYDNEY -- Hachette Filipacchi Australia, a subsidiary of French publishing group Hachette Filipacchi Medias, has tapped M&C Saatchi to promote the women's magazine Elle in Australia. Hachette Filipacchi Australia has also assigned two people to refocus its sales and marketing capabilities following Hachette's recent separation from Kerry Packer's Australian Consolidated Press. The seven-year-old joint publishing venture between the two companies ended in June, forcing Hachette to go it alone. The split enabled ACP to focus on its troubled fashion magazine Mode and allowed Hachette to concentrate on rebuilding Elle's circulation.

Lisa Poulos is promoted from advertising and marketing director to associate publisher for Elle and Top Model. Megan Hall will join Hachette Filipacchi Australia on September 8 as marketing manager. She was previously responsible for marketing Murdoch Magazines' title New Woman.

Karim Temsamani, managing director of Hachette Filipacchi's Australian operation, says of the appointments: "We now have a clear marketing and sales structure in place which will enable us to service the needs of both our readers and our staff. Our belief is that marketing and research are key factors for success in the Australian market, and we aim to be one of the most proactive publishers around in this field."
