Federated Department Stores, San Francisco, is expanding Macys.Com
as a separate retail subsidiary, stepping up the retailer's e-commerce efforts. Federated has experimented with Web sales on the site since '96; it will relaunch in October, offering 250,000 items across department store categories. Federated is working with Left Field, a San Francisco ad and Web marketing firm. IBM Corp. will help run the site.
