The magazine industry's ad page output climbed 3.7% in the third quarter, vs. a year ago, for a total of 171,257 pages, according to the latest figures released by Publishers Information Bureau, New York. Ad pages in 11 of the top 13 major advertising categories grew. Among the standouts: financial, insurance and real estate, up 22.4%; retail, up 19.8%; technology, up 11.6%; automotive, up 11.4%; and home furnishings, up 5.8%. Softness was noted in direct response, down 15.8%, and toiletries and cosmetics, down 15.3%.
