Marketing women's basketball

Published on .

USA Basketball announced several new sponsors for its 1996 U.S. Olympic women's basketball team, part of an unprecedented marketing push for the team. Kraft Foods, Lifetime Television, Sears, State Farm Life Insurance, Tambrands and Topps Trading Card Co. join Champion Sports as sponsors of the team. In addition, Nike has come on board as a marketing partner. Champion will market replica jerseys and a full line of practice gear and will announce details of a related grass roots promotional effort next week. All the sponsors have made commitments to buy media time during USA Basketball broadcasts on ABC, ESPN and ESPN 2 over the next year. The deals were put together by NBA Properties, New York, marketing agent for USA Basketball.
