Published on .

TOKYO -- Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd. August 7 announced the launch of a new palm-size digital video camera that it claims is the world's smallest commercial camcorder.

The new camera, the NV-C2, comes with a 2.5-inch LCD monitor. It combines digital video camcorder and digital still camera functions. At around 490 cubic centimeters and weighing 510 grams, Matsushita claims it is the smallest horizontal style digital video camera with a builtin LCD monitor.

It will be launched in the Japanese market September 10 at a price of $1,586, Matsushita says. The company has not released information about plans to export the camera.

Matsushita sells electronic products under the Panasonic, Technics, Quasar and National brand names.
