Matt Bousquette to Head New Global Division

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Toy maker Mattel Inc. has consolidated two divisions and shook up its management ranks.

Mattel named Matt Bousquette president of a global Mattel Brands division, created by consolidating Mattel's girls and boys/entertainment divisions.

division produced Hot Wheels, games and puzzles, male action figures and licensed entertainment properties, including products based on the Harry Potter series of books. The girls division includes the still hot-selling Barbie franchise.

Following the consolidation, the job of girls division President Adrienne Fontanella was eliminated along with about 5% of Mattel executive level positions.

Mattel commanded 22.2% of the toy market in sales for 2002, according to data based on a sample of 21 toy retailers culled from NPD Funworld's Toy Retailers Sales Tracking System.

WPP Group's Ogilvy & Mather, Culver City, Calif., and sibling Y&R Cos., Irvine, Calif., and Y&R Advertising, New York, handle Mattel.
