(March 27, 2001) -- Interpublic Group of Cos.' McCann-Erickson in Troy, Mich., kicks off a local, pro-bono pilot ad program on March 28 offering teenagers the chance to product a 30-second TV commercial discouraging underage alcohol abuse. A local anti-underage alcohol group founded by an area judge is behind the effort. If succesful, the program could go nationwide. The finalists will present their entries to middle school students and the winning team will be announced May 29. John Barczyk, a group account director at the agency, is overseeing the effort. McCann will help the team produce the spot, to air on local Detroit TV. -- Jean Halliday
