NEW YORK ( -- McCann WorldGroup, the largest network within Interpublic Group of Cos., is beefing up its executive ranks, promoting veteran executive Eric Keshin, currently head of North America, to chief operating officer, according to an executive familiar with the matter.

Newly created role
The promotion gave Mr. Keshin, a 25-year veteran, a worldwide responsibility in a newly created role behind Chairman-CEO John Dooner. Mr. Keshin retains his North American responsibilities.

In addition, Brett Gosper, who briefly led McCann Ericson Worldwide's New York office but left to become president of the Omnicom Group's TBWA Worldwide, New York, is rejoining McCann. He was named president of McCann USA, a newly created post.

Mr. Gosper's departure from TBWA is a shock to that network, which has struggled to bring its New York office up to the stature enjoyed by its West Coast operation in Playa del Rey. His earlier tenure at McCann was brief, lasting less than one year (he departed in August 2004). He joined McCann from Euro RSCG Worldwide in London.

Wooed by Jean-Marie Dru
President-CEO Jean-Marie Dru wooed Mr. Gosper to TBWA to take what was then a newly created job. While at TBWA, he absorbed additional duties held by Shona Seifert, who resigned after she was convicted of defrauding the federal government for work done while at WPP Group's Ogilvy & Mather on the White House drug office account.

Tom Carroll, vice chairman of TBWA Worldwide, declined to comment.
