McCann wins Vodaphone

U.K.-based mobile telecom company Vodaphone appointed McCann-Erickson Worldwide, London, as its first global agency. Others pitching for the estimated $75 million account were believed to have been Ogilvy & Mather Worldwide and BMP DDB, which handles the U.K. account. Vodaphone wouldn't confirm the budget or agency pitch list. Vodaphone wants McCann to create a single global brand, with an initial focus on Europe. Vodaphone's current local agencies will continue to work alongside McCann, a company spokesman said. Separately at the agency's parent, McCann-Erickson WorldGroup, Kevin Allen was named its first marketing director for Europe. Mr. Allen, 46, will retain his current responsibilities as director of business development for Europe, Middle East and Africa. The appointment is designed to underscore that McCann offers an integrated marketing service, ranging from advertising to event marketing through its so-called "corridor" companies.
