McD, Disney confirm pact

Published on .

McDonald's Corp. and Walt Disney Co. Thursday confirmed a long-rumored agreement to create a global marketing alliance. The 10-year pact, to take effect next January, will make McDonald's Disney's primary fast-food promotional partner; they will share marketing rights in more than 93 countries, linking McDonald's to Disney movies, theme parks and home video releases.

McDonald's will also be the presenting sponsor of the Dinoland attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom, planned for a 1998 opening at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Disney and McDonald's were promotional partners from 1987 to 1991, but for the past four years Disney has partnered with the No. 2 fast-food chain, Burger King. BK has a $40 million promotional tie-in for Disney's "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" this fall.
