McDonald's Corp. confirmed reports the burger giant will soon unveil a major value campaign to fend off competitors. In a statement, which followed a report in the Feb. 26 Wall Street Journal, the company defended its domestic sales performance and said "wild conclusions" in the Journal article were "flat out wrong." Citing internal documents, the story stated same-store domestic sales were projected to fall 3.5% this year. "The facts are: U.S. sales have been good," the statement said. "The trends are the best we have seen in some time...and we're going to build on the momentum."
