McDonald's starts 'Armageddon' ads

McDonald's Corp., Oak Brook, Ill., launches TV support Wednesday for its link to the Walt Disney Co. feature film "Armageddon." Commercials from DDB Needham Worldwide, Chicago, shot on the film's asteroid set, include an initial 15-second spot touting french fries and an on-pack sticker giving a chance to win one of 1 million free "Armageddon" tickets. A :30, breaking July 24, shows a computer-generated asteroid that turns out to be a Quarter Pounder with Cheese. Hispanic advertising via del Rivero Messianu, Miami, will be launched July 3, with African-American advertising to be launched July 24 from Burrell Communications, Chicago.
