McDonald’s takes on Starbucks in China

McDonald's Corp. is taking on Starbucks with the opening of its first coffee shop in the Chinese capital of Beijing. McCoffee, which makes its debut at the downtown Oriental Plaza, is selling drinks for around $1 to $2 per cup, making the venue accessible to lower-income customer groups.

Starbucks has opened more than 20 coffee shops in Beijing. Its similarly affordable prices have meant its shops usually are packed with customers.
