MCI readies Internet access product vs. AT&T

MCI Communications Corp. this week is expected to introduce a new consumer Internet access product rivaling AT&T's WorldNet Service. Pricing will be "very competitive" to that of AT&T's product. An advertising campaign from Messner Vetere Berger McNamee Schmetterer/Euro RSCG, New York, for the product won't launch for at least a month, said an MCI spokesman.

AT&T launched WorldNet with great fanfare on March 14, and demand has far exceeded expectations. AT&T ran out of software to distribute at its launch party and has had to tell some who have placed orders that they may have to wait several weeks to receive it.
