McNeil seeks meeting with FDA about Benecol

At press time, McNeil Consumer Products was trying to set up a second meeting with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration regarding McNeil's cholesterol-reducing margarine, Benecol. McNeil has delayed its Benecol test in Portland, Ore., while it tries to reach common ground with FDA, which insists the company must market Benecol as a dietary supplement rather than a food. Saatchi & Saatchi, New York, handles Benecol.
