MDs ask TV ad ban for liquor

The American Medical Association's House of Delegates, meeting in Chicago, voted to ask the federal government for legislative and regulatory action to ban liquor ads from television. The move follows action by Seagram's, breaking the distilled spirits industry's voluntary code by placing ads for Crown Royal whiskey on a TV station in Texas. AMA chair Dr. Nancy W. Dickey said "Seagram's action represents a step backwards in efforts to reduce underage and college binge drinking."
