Mecklermedia revenues up

Published on .

Mecklermedia Corp. reported revenues of $38 million for the six months ended March 31, up 195% from $12.9 million for the comparable period in fiscal 1996. Net income was $5.6 million, compared to a net loss of $2.5 million in the same period of the prior year. Revenues for the second quarter increased 259% to $20.5 million compared to $5.7 million for the same period last year.

But the vast majority of Mecklermedia's revenue increase came from trade shows, not its publications. Only $1.5 million of the new revenues for the second quarter came from magazines.

"As expected, continued investment in our publishing operations will result in operating losses in the near term in quarters where we do not have significant trade shows," Mecklermedia Chairman-CEO Alan Meckler said.
