Media moguls meet in Italy

Published on .

International media tycoon Rupert Murdoch visited Italian media tycoon and former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi at Mr. Berlusconi's home in Rome Thursday. Mr. Berlusconi's Fininvest media group and Mr. Murdoch's News Corp. are discussing the sale of Fininvest's TV, ad and entertainment holding company Mediaset. Mr. Berlusconi's Forza Italia political party has refused to accept new antitrust proposals from legislators to avoid a June 11 national referendum on TV ownership and advertising, which could also lead to his being forced to sell two of his three TV networks.
