Mercedes-Benz taps Jackson

Mercedes-Benz of North America Exec VP-Marketing, Service and Sales Mike Jackson, 48, was named president and placed in line to succeed Michael Bassermann, 61, as M-B North America CEO. Mr. Basserman gives up the president's title and becomes chairman-CEO April 1. Dieter Zetsche, a board of management member in Germany, will resume the chairmanship of M-B North America at Mr. Basserman's planned retirement at the end of 1998. At that time, Mr. Jackson will assume the additional responsibilities of CEO.
