Merger fever still high

Top corporate executives in the U.S. say they expect merger and acquisition activity to increase significantly over the next several years, according to a Deloitte & Touche LLP survey. Nearly half say their companies' interest in acquisitions is greater than it was just years ago. Two-thirds of the executives (65%) expect their own companies to acquire businesses domestically in the next 12 months, and 39% expect an overseas acquisition. Of those planning overseas acquisitions, 36% are targeting Western Europe, 28% South America and 26% Asia.
