Merger off, MCI spinoff talk builds

Insiders say MCI WorldCom may spin off its MCI-branded consumer services unit to concentrate on b-to-b broadband communications following the termination today of its plan to merge with Sprint Corp. Sprint, meanwhile, is said to be focused on fine-tuning its menu of bundled consumer and b-to-b services.
