Merrill Lynch account to JWT

Published on .

Merrill Lynch & Co., New York, tapped J. Walter Thompson USA, New York, to handle its $90 million global ad account. The new campaign, which wasn't disclosed, is tentatively slated to begin in September. "They did a good job of capturing Merrill Lynch and how we want to articulate our vision," said Charlie Mangano, first VP-marketing for Merrill. D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles, New York, was the runner-up. Former Ogilvy & Mather Worlwide, New York, joint creative chief Bill Hamilton will be global creative director on the Merrill Lynch account, which includes a $20 million direct marketing assignment. He had assisted JWT with the Merrill Lynch pitch.
