How the survey was conducted:

Applied Research & Consulting conducted a nationwide telephone survey of 550 respondents with Internet access. A cross-sectional cohort-based design was used, with respondents divided equally into five age groups (13-17, 18-25, 26-35, 36-55 and 56-plus). Trends were inferred by comparing respondents' current attitudes and behaviors with their anticipated future attitudes and behaviors, and by comparing responses across and between age groups. Ethnic and gender distributions were consistent with national averages. The overall margin of error is plus-or-minus 9 percentage points.
