Advertising Age adhered to strict methodologies in compiling the charts reprinted in this Advertising Fact Book.

Basic information concerning the charts appears in the footnotes, but further explanations of methodologies are in the issues in which the charts originally appeared (dates are given in the footnotes).

Among changes since the charts first ran and not factored into rankings shown in this issue:

100 Leading Media Companies: No. 44 Affiliated Publications (The Boston Globe) was sold in October to No. 13 New York Times Co. Controlling interest in privately held No. 54 Donrey Media Group has been bought by Stephens Group following the death of Donrey founder/owner, Donald W. Reynolds.

World's Top 50 ad organizations: Interpublic Group of Cos., No. 2, acquired Scali, McCabe, Sloves from No. 1 WPP Group and folded into Lowe Group the SMS-named shops, the Martin Agency and Stenrich Group; No. 31 FCA Group bought by Publicis (part of No. 9 Publicis-FCB Communications).M
