Mexican gas card is launched

MEXICO CITY--FleetOne de Mexico has launched anelectronic system to pay for gasoline and otherrelated purchases in Mexico. FleetOne, a subsidiaryof the Williams Companies, signed agreements withPetroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) and with the NationalAssociation of Petroleum Vendors to roll out itsGasoPlus cards and payment system nationwide.

Only Pemex gasoline is available in Mexico. However, the more than 2,500 gas stations throughoutthe country are operated independently as franchises.While the national association has backed the initiative, FleetOne will be marketing the service toindividual gas station owners. FleetOne is the firstcompany to be allowed to use the Pemex logo, whichis printed on the gas cards and is prominently featuredon the new card-payment machines. The GasoPlus cardalso offers co-branding and cross-marketing opportunities. For example, FleetOne presented a card thatalso features the American Airlines logo and a frequent flyer number, so the customer can accumulatemiles via purchases of gasoline.
