MGD ads from Miller, JWT see 'Genuine' opportunity

Miller Brewing Co. unveils a new tagline for Miller Genuine Draft--"Never miss a Genuine opportunity"--in TV ads breaking in the Jan. 22 telecast of the Portland Trailblazers vs. Los Angeles Lakers NBA game. The two commercials, which also will air during the NFL playoff games Jan. 23, are the first work from MGD agency J. Walter Thompson USA, Chicago, since it was handed the assignment last July. Wieden & Kennedy, Portland, Ore., previously handled the brand. The spots show lighthearted situations in which MGD drinkers seize business and personal opportunities. Said Miller Brewing Senior VP-Marketing Bob Mikulay, "With the twist of the MGD cap, any situation can become a genuine opportunity." Hispanic ads by Latin Works, Austin, Texas, will start in February.
