The move immediately makes Microsoft the 800-pound gorilla in a small but growing market. Interse has more than 1,000 customers for its market focus software, the newest version of which enables site owners to create three-dimensional models showing traffic flow as well as multidimensional analysis of the data. Interse President-CEO Terry Myerson will join Microsoft's Internet services business division.
"Understanding usage patterns on your Web site is the best way to see what your customers are interested in so you can deliver the most targeted content," Bill Gates, Microsoft chairman-CEO, said in a statement. Microsoft didn't disclose terms of the deal.
