Microsoft buys CompareNet

Microsoft Corp., Redmond, Wash., bought CompareNet, San Francisco, a service that allows consumers to compare prices at Web commerce sites. CompareNet, which employs 40 people and was founded in 1996, will be folded into the MSN Sidewalk online guide. Microsoft didn't disclose how much it paid for CompareNet.
