Microsoft names Slate

Published on .

Microsoft Corp.'s new online commentary magazine, edited by ex-New Republic Editor Michael Kinsley, will be called Slate and will debut this summer."I chose the name Slate, as in the blank variety, because we could pour meaning into it," Mr. Kinsley said. The magazine also has hired three veteran journalists--Jack Shafer, formerly editor of San Francisco Weekly; Jodie Allen, editor of The Washington Post's Sunday "Outlook" section; and Judith Shulevitz, a columnist at New York Magazine.
