Microsoft Corp. today confirmed a published report that the Federal Trade Commission has asked it to change print advertising for the Pocket PC. The FTC declined to comment, apparently meaning the commission has yet to vote on the agreement. Microsoft said it had signed the agreement and that the FTC had concerns the company's "Can your Palm do that?" effort, from Interpublic Group of Cos.' McCann Erickson
Worldwide, San Francisco, failed to adequately disclose that the Pocket PC needed a separate modem. While the need for a modem was disclosed in the ads, it was in small type. Microsoft said the ad ran in April 2000, but was altered for new ad pushes in September and October.
