Miocrosoft teams with Random House

Published on .

Microsoft Corp. and Random House in January will put a serialized multimedia version of a new book about pop music onto Microsoft Network. The two said this will mark the first exclusive online serialization of a major trade book.

"The Mansion on the Hill: Dylan, Young, Geffen, Springsteen, and the Head-On Collision of Rock and Commerce," by music critic Fred Goodman, will be published in January by Random House's Times Books.

At the same time, MSN will serialize the book on its Music Central section in four weekly installments starting Jan. 16. A synopsis, with artist bios, song clips and interview sound bites, will be open to anyone with Web access. MSN members will get full serialization and added content.
